For a layman, there seems to be no difference between a plasma and LCD TV. Both provide high-resolution, high-contrast images and both are flat, sleek and can be mounted on a wall. The difference lies in the technology that drives them. Plasma TVs work with inert gases like xenon or neon, which are excited by electric pulses from specialized cells called pixels. This makes the gases glow. These glowing gases, in turn, produce the correct blend of red, blue and green light on the pixels. The pixels are illuminated by a fluorescent light bulb, which is driven by semiconductor software on the motherboard.
LCDs are actually thin film transistors (TFT), which contain liquid filled crystals between two plates of glass. LCDs work by blocking out unwanted light. When the signal hits the TFTs, they contort to a required angle, thus allowing only the requisite amount of light to pass through. A lamp behind the screen or a thin LCD bulb provides illumination to the TFT. LCD TVs and plasma TVs have their individual strengths and weaknesses. Plasma TVs show better contrasts. Contrast means the ratio between the blackest black and the whitest white. A plasma TV can produce contrasts of even 3000 to 1, which is very high by LCD standards.
LCD TVs can provide contrasts up to 900 to 1. However, in LCD technology, even a low contrast ratio can produce much better images.Plasma TVs produce colors by addition of red, blue and green while LCD TVs produce colors by blocking unwanted light from the spectrum. Read the rest of this entry »

Fuse boxes serve the same purpose as circuit breaker boxes. The fuse controls the electrical current from appliances within a home. Fuse boxes are outdated by modern standards. The advantage to having circuit breakers in a home is that instead of replacing a fuse each time it is used, circuit breakers can be easily reset. According to government estimate, faulty electrical wiring each year causes approximately forty thousand house fires. Like circuit breakers, fuses are used to prevent fires and electrocutions by interrupting electrical currents in the case of a power overload. When a fuse blows or a circuit breaker trips, it is important for you to locate the source of the problem. One of the most common causes of blown fuses is power overload. For instance, if you have lights that seem to stop working frequently, you may have too many items connected to a single power source. In other cases, blown fuses may represent more serious problems. Sometimes an appliance may have a short circuit; it could even mean a short circuit in the home’s internal wiring. In either case, it is best to have a professional electrician evaluate the fuse box and wiring to prevent serious house fires.
As you would in a circuit breaker panel, you should also label each fuse in the fuse box. Labeling each fuse can make it easier to replace the one in need by accurately locating the blown fuse and which appliance it serves. You can identify a blown fuse by first turning off everything on the circuit. Identify fuses that are melted, cracked or have frayed wires. When replacing a fuse, keep everything turned off to prevent electrocution.

They are very durable, don’t require much maintenance and cost less than other types. A big advantage of a rope hammock is that it “breathes”, letting you get the most benefit from breezes on a hot day. If you had to take a sample of the water that we drink ever day then you would probably be absolutely horrified at the contaminants that we put into our bodies every day.
